Besshiyama Village is the smallest village in Southern Japan with a population of only 270 people. Due to decreasing population, the once prosperous mining village will soon disappear as it is merged with a larger nearby metro area. This story is about a flower named "Kumagaiso" which blooms for only 2 weeks in its lifetime and a 92-year former miner named Kiyoshi Kondo who has dedicated his life to the flower. This documentary is the result of over 100 hours of filming where thousands of people from all over Japan came to view the "miraculous blossoming" that is the culmination of 40 years of Mr. Kiyoshi's life; a life dedicated to the flower. The dedication and brightness of Mr. Kiyoshi's life may be the deeper reason that so many people are drawn to witness this "precious miracle". In a difficult world fi led with competition, suspicion
and societal breakdown, Mr. Kiyoshi's story serves as a message of hope and a lesson in how to regain some of what we seem to be losing in our modern lives.
