Japan alone consumes over 50% of the world tuna catch, an indication of just how popular this nutritious fish is. And of all the different varieties, Bluefin are considered the best. They take around sixteen years to reach maturity and in that time swim some 20,000 kilometers on their migration throughout the world's oceans. It is this long journey that earns them the respect and reverence of the Japanese tuna industry. Our program follows one big Bluefin una which in the Japanese market costs more than the average car - from the fishing port to the tables of Tokyo's restaurants. Along the way we explain the intricate distribution, cutting, and pricing processes and, of course, the mouth-watering and sometimes exotic ways tuna are eaten in Japan.
