~First Time For A Japanese Terrestrial Broadcaster~ IT Planning & Development Division of NTV Acquires ISMS(ISO/IEC 27001:2005) Certification!

The IT Planning & Development Division of Nippon Television Network Corporation (NTV), as the first terrestrial broadcaster, has obtained ISMS (ISO/IEC 27001: 2005) certification, the international standard for information security management systems, from ISMS Certification/Registration Body, Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance (LRQA), on April 12, 2006.

With the progress of information technology in business operations, the need to establish information security measures becomes increasingly important. Urgent technical and company-wide countermeasures must be taken against viruses and information leaks in order to securely manage information.

Acquiring the Information Security Management System (ISMS) certification signifies that our company will have the benefit of having in place, a framework of managing information security and maintaining business operations in its various areas (such as policy, document management, technical, personnel), and measures to ensure (1) appropriate risk management of information assets, (2) raising awareness of security among those persons related to information systems and (3) minimizing business risks through ongoing reforms.

As the IT Planning & Development Division controls the information system within NTV, efforts have been made to establish a company-wide information security management system. Furthermore, our compliance with the ongoing PDCA* (Plan →Do→Check→Act) cycle of operation which maintains and improves information security, has led to our acquisition of this certification.

The ISMS certification we have received is for the IT Planning & Development Division, which we plan to renew every three years. NTV, as a member of the media industry in the public eye, will work to further strengthen its information security.

Mr. Simon Batters, LRQA Vice President of Japan and Korea, plans to visit NTV Tower on April 26th to present NTV President Mr. Shintaro Kubo with the official ISMS registration certificate.
