Launch of First web video service of "Japanese Humor - OWARAI -"Japanese Variety Shows on Joost in U.S.
NIPPON TELEVISION NETWORK CORPORATION (hereafter referred to as "NTV"; Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo, Japan; Representative Director and President Mr. Shintaro Kubo), YOSHIMOTO KOGYO CO, LTD. (hereafter referred to as "YOSHIMOTO"; Head Office: Osaka City, Japan; President Mr. Isao Yoshino) and DENTSU INC. (hereafter referred to as "DENTSU"; Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo, Japan; President & COO Mr. Tatsuyoshi Takashima) have agreed with Joost to offer Japanese content on their web video service in the U.S. This marks the first time that a Japanese commercial TV broadcaster or content provider will have its Japanese variety shows distributed via an international web video service. The volume of content to be offered on the web video service totals 35 hours, six titles and 105 episodes of variety shows and animated series such as Denpa Shonen (NTV), Hitosi Matumoto Visualbum (YOSHIMOTO) and Buzzer Beater (NTV) (Details of titles are below).
A specific channel titled "Japanese Humor - OWARAI -" will be launched on the web video service site aiming to introduce humorous Japanese variety programs. Animated programs will be streamed individually on a separate channel. English subtitles will be made available for each title, and the channels will be available starting in December, 2008. The programs will be available on Joost in the US and it is not possible to see the service from other countries.
The partners share the scope of work: NTV and YOSHIMOTO provide content while DENTSU sells advertisement for each program.
In the U.S., viewing of videos on web sites has been dramatically increasing in recent years.
