20th Century Boys -Chapter 2- Nabs No.1 at Japanese Box Office!!

On January 31, the second installment of the science fiction/suspense trilogy 20th Century Boys was released to 374 screens in Japan. The first installment, 20th Century Boys -Chapter 1-, was a blockbuster hit grossing $40 million from over 3,000,000 admissions last summer.

20th Century Boys -Chapter 2- earned $6.9 million (622,184,250 yen) from 556,354 admissions in its first two days. The Japanese movie distributor TOHO has announced that the film could go on to earn over $50 million, and reach $150 million for the entire trilogy.

The third installment, 20th Century Boys -Chapter 3-, is scheduled for release on August 29, 2009.

[Synopsis]
Chapter 1: An ordinary man, Kenji, realized that a cult leader called "Friend" is trying to destroy the world, making things in the playful The Book of Prophecy Kenji wrote as a child into reality. He reunited with his old friends to fight against "Friend" and save the world. However, on December 31st, 2000, the day the world is set to end according to The Book of Prophecy, "Friend" succeeded in setting a bomb in Tokyo...

Chapter 2: Fifteen years later, in 2015, Kenji is missing. People believe that Kenji and his friends were the satanic terrorists behind the horrific act that took place in 2000. "Friend," on the other hand, is worshipped as the savior who stopped the doomsday plan. Having faith in Kenji, his niece Kanna decides to unveil the true identity of "Friend" while Kenji's friends try to protect her at all costs. Now, another chapter begins...
