Private medical practitioners sue Google over malicious reviews

63 private medical practitioners across Japan sued Google for not taking action against malicious reviews and incorrect facility information on Google Maps.

The trial’s first hearing was held on July 17 at the Tokyo District Court.

The doctors asked for a total of around 1.45 million yen for Google’s poor handling that has allegedly affected business.

The plaintiffs said that their business names were listed on Google Maps for the public to leave reviews without their consent.

They asserted the violation of their rights on a platform that acts as infrastructure for people’s daily life is incomparable to that of a website run by individuals.

Google has indicated its intention to counterargue the case.
