Limestone cave in northeastern Japan reopens after typhoon causes

Limestone cave Ryusendo in northeastern Japan closed on August 12 due to the effects of Typhoon Maria, known as Typhoon No. 5 in Japanese.

The typhoon caused heavy rains, which flooded the caverns and power distribution center among other facilities.

Ryusendo Cave reopened on August 25 to the anticipation of visitors after safety checks.

S/ Tourist/ I booked flights to come to Ryusendo Cave. I’m glad it opened.

Ryusendo offices said they will observe the path and scale of Typhoon Shanshan (Typhoon No. 10) as it approaches Japan with strong force and possibility of landfall.
