Chuo Line gets double-decker first-class cabins

The Chuo Line, which leads through Tokyo, Yamanashi and Nagano prefectures, got an upgrade on October 13.

Some of its trains that run through Tokyo and Otsuki Station in Yamanashi Prefecture now have double-decker first-class Green Car cabins.

Railfans flocked to Takao Station in Tokyo to check out the new look.

Passengers are normally required to purchase a separate ticket to ride the Green Car, which is the equivalent of a first-class seat.

It comes with reclining seats with power outlets and tables.

The Green Cars will be available to all passengers without a separate ticket until spring 2025 when the luxurious cars will be introduced to all trains.

Passenger / Tokyo Station is a little far, and it's hard when you can't get a seat. It will be very nice if we can secure a seat on the Green Car.

East Japan Railway said users can check the operation information on its official smartphone app.
