Japan to develop integrated strategy for decarbonization by 2040
Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio announced on May 13 that Japan will develop a new strategy by the end of the year for decarbonization and industrial policy by 2040.
Kishida Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan: Step by step we will climb the biggest hurdle on the road to 2050 carbon neutrality. To achieve this, we will show a realistic route to decarbonization shared by the public and private sectors, and this is the purpose of GX (Green Transformation) 2.0.
In addition to support for decarbonized power sources, the project will consider the development of transmission lines for facilities that require large amounts of electricity.
Decarbonized power sources include those like perovskite solar cells, and the new transmission headed for facilities like semiconductor factories and data centers.
The project will also examine how industrial clusters can be tailored to regions with high levels of decarbonized power sources, such as renewable energy and nuclear power.
