Possible Emergency Warnings for southern Kyushu for Typhoon Shanshan

Typhoon Shanshan, also known as Typhoon No. 10 in Japanese, is approaching southern Kyushu.

As of the morning of August 28, the Japan Meteorological Agency may issue an Emergency Warning for Kagoshima Prefecture in the future, asking for people to evacuate before the storm hits.

In response to the coming typhoon, the JMA and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism held an emergency press conference at 7:00AM on August 28.

During the press conference, they announced that Typhoon Shanshan is likely to approach southern Kyushu by August 29 and then make landfall.

As a result, special storm, wave, and storm surge warning may be issued around noon on August 28 for Kagoshima Prefecture, excluding the Amami region.

Officials from the JMA said that storms, tidal waves, and storm surges of an unprecedented nature are being forecast, which require the utmost caution.

They also said that Kagoshima and Miyazaki prefectures are likely to experience record-breaking rainfall, and a special heavy rainfall warning may be issued.

The JMA said that Typhoon Shanshan will move at a slower speed, causing some parts of the country to experience longer periods of storms that may cause houses to collapse.

The agency also urges people to complete evacuation before the storm begins to hit as it is dangerous to move around in a storm.
