Emperor, Empress, and Princess Aiko visit Monet exhibit
Emperor Naruhito, Empress Masako, and Princess Aiko visited the “Monet: The Late Waterscapes” exhibition at the National Museum of Western Art on January 27.
The exhibition features 64 pieces of French painter Claude Monet’s later works, many featuring his “Water Lilies”, and some of which are on display in Japan for the first time.
The Imperial couple talked about how beautiful the works were, with the Emperor saying that one could see the feeling of flowing water as he looked at one of the pieces.
Emperor Naruhito also asked several questions about Monet's painting techniques, such as how many different types of brushes he used when painting.
Monet: The Late Waterscapes is on at The National Museum of Western Art until February 11.
