Crown Prince Fumihito turns 59, amazed at how quickly his son came of age

Crown Prince Fumihito of Akishino turned 59 years old on November 30.

He and Crown Princess Kiko visited his elder brother Emperor Naruhito, Empress Masako and their daughter Princess Aiko at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo to exchange greetings.

Officials said Fumihito and Kiko also informed the emperor that they will travel to Turkey starting December 3.

Ahead of his birthday, the crown prince made remarks about his son Prince Hisahito, who turned 18 in September.

S/ Crown Prince Fumihito / From the standpoint of a parent, seeing that a child who was sitting in a child safety seat until just recently has already come of age, I truly feel that time passes quickly.

Fumihito said he tells his son to engage in each of his official duties as an adult member of the imperial family with care.

The crown prince is the first in line to Japan’s Chrysanthemum throne, followed by Hisahito.
