Osaka and Toyama make NYTimes list of places to go

The New York Times published its “52 Places to Go in 2025” on January 7, and featured Toyama City as its 30th destination among various destinations from around the world.

The article introduces the Toyama Glass Art Museum, which was designed by Kuma Kengo, and the Owara Kaze no Bon festival, which is held annually in September.

Additionally, it goes to mention several local restaurants and local delicacies, including the one-pot dish oden and Japanese curry.

Also making it onto the list in 38th place was Osaka, which was praised for “Grand Green Osaka”, a lifestyle hub and green space that opened on the site of a former freight station.

In addition to mentioning World Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai that will start in April, it noted that Osaka is arguably Japan’s most progressive city with the opening of Pride Center Osaka and the hosting of the International LGBTQ+ Travel Association convention.

Other locations in Japan have been selected for the list in the past, including Yamaguchi City in 2024, and Morioka City and Fukuoka City in 2023.
