Demolition work begins on new condo blocking Mt. Fuji's view

Demolition work has begun on a newly built condominium in Tokyo’s western suburb of Kunitachi as nearby residents complained that the structure obstructs their view of Mt. Fuji.

Units in this 10-story condominium were scheduled to be handed over to the buyers in July.

However, voices of opposition arose from residents concerned about losing their view of Japan’s iconic mountain.

Sekisui House, the company constructing the condo, announced in June the cancellation of the project and its decision to demolish the building, citing insufficient consideration of impact on the surrounding area.

Sekisui House told Nippon TV that after completing preparations and explanations to local residents, it began the demolition work on July 16.

The company also explained that it will implement thorough measures to address safety, noise, and vibration concerns, and will proceed with the demolition work while paying the utmost attention to minimize any inconvenience to everyone.
