Carp streamer event held in Tokyo ahead of children's week
Nursery school children and celebrities put carp streamers on a wall in Tokyo on April 22.
The event took place ahead of children's welfare awareness week in Japan starting May 5, a public holiday to celebrate Children's Day.
The Children and Families Agency designated the week to urge people to think about children's growth and family environments.
The carp streamer hoisting event has been held annually since 1958.
This year, it was moved indoors due to rain.
Forty-two children took part in the event along with fish expert and entertainer Sakana-kun and ozeki Kotonowaka from sumo wrestling.
