Sharp to enter electric vehicle business
Sharp announced on September 6 that it will enter the electric vehicle business with a car which does not pursue driving performance but instead can be converted into living space.
The name of the concept car is “LDK+. It is an abbreviation of “living room, dining room, and kitchen,” which represents the layout of a house.
Taking note that privately owned cars spend most of the time parked in garages, Sharp proposes to use the car as an extension of living space when it is not running.
The rear seats swivel backward, and the rear window turns into a large LCD display. This can be used to watch movies and play games, or for remote work.
The car is also equipped with solar panels and a storage battery, making it possible to use the vehicle as a power source in the event of a disaster.
The concept car makes use of Sharp's technologies cultivated by the long-established home electronics manufacturer.
The company says that when creating products for practical use, it will select functions and aim for an EV that is unique to Sharp, without placing much focus on “driving performance”.
