Taxi overturns on Tokyo's expressway, kills 2

A taxi overturned in a tunnel on the Shuto Expressway Bayshore Route, central Tokyo on the evening of May 11, killing the driver and passenger.

According to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, at around 6:55 p.m., the taxi traveling in the direction of Yokohama in the Tamagawa Tunnel came in contact with a curb and then collided with a wall, causing it to overturn.

The police said the taxi is thought to have overturned multiple times, and the accident resulted in the deaths of the 46-year-old male taxi driver and the 61-year-old male passenger.

Since the taxi driver did not have any noticeable external injuries, the police believe that he may have died of an illness while driving.

They plan to investigate the cause of the accident in detail by checking the drive recorder footage and other evidence.
