LGBTQ+ fashion experience event held in Tokyo
Fashion site operator ZOZO held a styling experience event for LGBTQ+ people in Tokyo on April 15 ahead of a parade aimed at deepening understanding of sexual minorities.
Yamaguchi Shoichi, who was born with a female body and currently lives as a transgender man, took part in the event held in ZOZO’s real store in Omotesando.
Since many sexual minorities have had difficult experiences with uniforms and suits being determined by gender, this experience event was planned with the hope that they would enjoy their own style.
Based on Yamaguchi’s fashion preferences, an AI system analyzed and presented three coordination proposals. He and a stylist took the recommendations in consideration in selecting clothes in the store.
Yamaguchi tried on three different sets of clothes, and decided on one that suited him. After he had his hair and makeup done, a photographer took pictures of him.
S/ Yamaguchi Shoichi, co-representative, Mie Rainbow Pride: It’s not about hiding inferiority complexes such as my height and frame but about making the most of them. Turning my complexes and weaknesses into strengths gave me confidence.
S/ Yakushi Mika, Representative Director, ReBit: I hope that the opportunity to be proud of your own style will be the first step to living your life as yourself.
The parade in Tokyo this weekend is aimed at realizing a society without prejudice or discrimination against sexual minorities and will be one of the largest of its kind in Asia.
