Rollercoaster stops near top in Hokkaido
A rollercoaster with 18 riders on board stopped suddenly near the top of the structure on April 29 at the Rusutsu Resort in Hokkaido, northern Japan.
According to the amusement park, a safety device was activated on the rollercoaster at around 2 p.m., causing an emergency stop at a height of approximately 40 meters while it was ascending.
S/ Rider: I felt like it stopped before it went all the way to the top. My child got scared and started crying.
This photo was taken by one of the riders. He said he evacuated down the emergency stairs.
S/ Rider: When we reached the top, the rollercoaster stopped suddenly. We had to wait in the stopped roller coaster for about 10 minutes.
S/ 2 passengers (saying together): I was scared. It stopped suddenly and it shocked me.
S/ eyewitness: When I saw it, it was stopped near the top and the passengers were being evacuated by park employees.
According to the official website, the rollercoaster is 46 meters at its highest point.
It says that guests can enjoy the thrill while it runs on rotating rails at 90 kilometers per hour.
The park said no abnormalities were found during the inspection that took place on the morning of April 29.
This rollercoaster also made an emergency stop in August 2018 due to an abnormality related to the brakes.
An investigation conducted on April 30 found the cause was thought to be a problem with the electrical system.
