Backcountry skiers rescued from mountain in Nagano

3 foreign nationals who went missing in the mountains of Otari in Nagano Prefecture were rescued on January 7, all without injuries.

The 3 were found by rescuers at around 1:00PM on the 7th and were able to descend the mountain on their own.

Rescued Man: We made a mistake. And then it was very dark, and we don’t have nothing to do. We made just like an igloo. And we just stay inside it to warm up.

Rescued Man: All okay. Thanks again for the police station in Nagano.

According to police, they received an emergency call just before 3:30PM on January 6 from an acquaintance of the 3 men, saying that they were stuck in the backcountry.

The 3 were stuck while skiing off the regular trails on the mountain, at an altitude of about 1,200 meters above sea level.
