Shizuoka Prefecture sees record heat

Temperatures soared across Japan on July 4, with Shizuoka Prefecture seeing a record-breaking 39 degrees celsius.

The mercury in Shizuoka City, Shizuoka prefecture reached 39.2 degrees due to strong sunlight and foehn effect, making it a record-high.

Temperatures in Tokyo reached 35 degrees celsius and 36.9 degrees in Kofu in adjacent Yamanashi Prefecture. 

Extreme heat was recorded in 46 spots in the country on Wednesday (July 4) including Shingu, Wakayama Prefecture, southwestern Japan, prompting weather officials to issue heat stroke alerts.
