Takahashi Yukimi reflects on daughter's death from overwork 9 years later
Takahashi Yukimi released a written statement sharing her current feelings on December 25 marking nine years after the death of her daughter Matsuri.
Matsuri, a hard-working freshman employee at the Japanese advertising giant Dentsu, took her own life on December 25, 2015 due to the relentless pressures of overwork at the age of 24.
Her mother wrote that she couldn’t help but feel frustrated when she remembered her daughter working so hard to live, and that she wanted Matsuri to be happy.
2024 marks 10 years since the enactment of the Act to Accelerate Moves for the Prevention of Karoshi or death from overwork.
Takahashi called on the government to review its measures to prevent karoshi, saying that she wants the government and corporate management to implement policies that put the health of workers first.
