Nihon Hidankyo delegates arrive in Norway for Nobel Peace Prize award ceremony
Delegates of Nihon Hidankyo, the recipient of this year's Nobel Peace Prize, arrived in Norway on December 8 for the award ceremony scheduled two days later.
Leaders of the group, also known as the Japan Confederation of A- and H-Bomb Sufferers Organization, spoke to reporters at Oslo Airport.
S/ Mimaki Toshiyuki, Co-Chairperson, Nihon Hidankyo / It is a great honor to be in Oslo today. We hate war and nuclear weapons. Peace is the best. Over the next three days, we hope to be able to do everything scheduled.
The three co-chairpersons, Tanaka Terumi, Tanaka Shigemitsu and Mimaki Toshiyuki, will attend the award ceremony on December 10 and receive the medal and diploma.
Tanaka Terumi is scheduled to give a speech, reiterating his calls to abolish nuclear weapons.
After the ceremony, they are scheduled to meet with the prime minister of Norway and hold exchanges with local high school students.
They will also speak about their experience of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945.
