Wake for Princess Yuriko attended by members of Imperial Family and PM Ishiba
The wake for Princess Yuriko, who passed away on November 15 at age 101, was held starting at 6 p.m. on November 24 at the Mikasa residence at the Akasaka Estate in Tokyo.
The princess was the widow of Prince Takahito of Mikasa, younger brother of Emperor Showa.
Her granddaughter Princess Akiko, who served as chief mourner, Crown Prince Fumihito and Crown Princess Kiko, and other members of the Imperial Family, as well as Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru and other Cabinet members attended.
Later, Princess Aiko, Princess Kako, Prince Hisahito and others also attended to pay their respects to Yuriko.
The wake was held in a room covered with a white cloth, and the altar was lined with offerings from Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako, Emperor Emeritus Akihito and Empress Emerita Michiko as well as flowers presented by members of the royal family.
Before the wake, just before 4 p.m., Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako and Emperor Emeritus Akihito and Empress Emerita Michiko, who usually do not attend farewell ceremonies, visited the residence of Prince and Princess Mikasa to pay their respects.
The wake will also be held on the 25th, and the funeral and burial rites will be held on the 26th at Toshimagaoka Cemetery.
