1400 cyclists participate in Tour de Tohoku in mega-quake hit area with local dishes to enjoy

The Tour de Tohoku 2024 was held in Miyagi Prefecture on September 15.

The 11th cycling event was organized not only for cycling but also to enjoy local dishes, with the aim of supporting areas affected by the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake.

This year, about 1,400 people took part in three coastal courses in Miyagi including the 180-kilometer round trip route between Ishinomaki and Kesennuma.

The participants rode bicycles around the affected areas without competing for a ranking.

Famous regional dishes were prepared and served for the cyclists at rest stops.

Participant from Fukushima Prefecture: I biked around five years ago, but the landscape of the cities has changed a lot. I enjoy watching the changes.

The cyclists rode along the Sanriku coast and received warm applause.
