US Navy helicopter makes emergency landing in eastern Japan

A US Navy helicopter made an emergency landing on the morning of August 3 in rice paddies in Ebina, Kanagawa Prefecture southwest of central Tokyo.

 

Japanese police said they received a call at around 11 a.m., notifying them that about a helicopter with “NAVY” written on it, in the rice paddies.

The helicopter appeared to have made an emergency landing after taking off from the Naval Air Facility Atsugi about 6 kilometers away.

 

Police said there were about 10 people aboard the aircraft and that no one was injured.

 

S/ Eyewitness: The helicopter looked like it was hovering, rather than flying. It was floating in a wobbly manner.

 

The Kanagawa Prefectural Government and the police said there was apparently some kind of trouble with the aircraft, which led to its landing.

 

 

However, it took off at around 12:30 p.m. approximately an hour and a half after the report was made to the police.

 

The authorities are gathering information on the circumstances surrounding the emergency landing.
