Man arrested after hurling Molotov cocktails and ramming car into PM Office's fence
The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department announced on October 19 that Molotov cocktails were thrown at the ruling Liberal Democratic Party headquarters.
According to the police a small vehicle drove near the LDP headquarters before 6AM and Molotov cocktail-like objects were thrown at it four or five times.
Three police officers guarding the building are complaining about a sore throat.
Immediately after that, the car rammed into the fence in front of the Prime Minister’s Office and threw what looked like smoke bombs at the police officers, and the police caught 49-year-old Usuda Atsunobu in the car red-handed.
He was arrested on suspicion of obstructing police duties.
The suspect has remained silent in response to the investigation.
Usuda's father: I don't talk to my son at all, and we eat separately. There were no signs (of an incident).
According to his father, Usuda had filed a lawsuit calling for the abolition of the deposit required when running for election, and had frequently participated in anti-nuclear power plant demonstrations.
On the night of October 19, the Tokyo metropolitan police public security bureau raided Usuda's home and seized cardboard boxes containing 25 glass bottles and other items.
In addition, about 20 polyethylene tanks loaded in the mini-van were mostly filled with gasoline. The public security bureau is continuing to investigate his motive.
