Cashier-less convenience store opens in Tokyo for limited time
Yamashita Risa, NTV Reporter: I picked up merchandise and left the store without going through the cashier. My smartphone shows that my payment has been completed.
At this store inside Tokyu’s Futako-tamagawa Station, customers can register their credit card through the communication app “LINE” and obtain a two-dimensional code for entering the store.
After they scan the QR code at the entrance to enter the store, they can pick up the products they want and leave the store without any further action, and the payment will be completed automatically.
The system uses 15 cameras installed on the ceiling and weight sensors on the shelves to determine which products and how many items customers have picked up.
The store will be open for a limited time from October 18 to March 14 next year.
