Kumamon celebrated 15 years as the mascot of Kumamoto Prefecture in southwestern Japan.

The annual Kumamon birthday festival was held in Kumamoto City and included stage performances and food stalls.

Kumamoto governor Kimura Takashi and mascots from other parts of Japan made an appearance on March 15.

Kumamon danced to 15 songs to celebrate 15 years since his debut for fans who came despite the rain.

The birthday festival continued on March 16 with a radio event featuring Kumamon and Kumamon creator Koyama Kundo.
