Actress Hirosue to be detained until April 19
A Japanese court has approved the detention of actress Hirosue Ryoko for 10 days until April 19.
Hirosue rear-ended a trailer truck on an expressway in Shizuoka Prefecture, central Japan, late on April 7.
She then allegedly injured a nurse at a hospital, kicking her multiple times.
Police arrested Hirosue over the assault case on April 8 and sent her temporarily to prosecutors the following day.
After considering whether to release or detain her, prosecutors asked the court to approve her detention.
Meanwhile, Shizuoka police searched the 44-year-old actress's house in Tokyo on April 10 on suspicion of dangerous driving causing injury.
Investigative sources said the search took place based on the suspect's actions before and after the incident, but no illegal substances were found.
On the night of April 7, Hirosue was driving back to her Tokyo home after working in Nara Prefecture, western Japan.
There have been reports that she was acting strangely when she made a rest stop at a service area in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka, talking to strangers, touching them and yelling.
Police are further investigating details of her actions leading up to allegedly assaulting the nurse.
