Ferry arrives at port after drifting
A high-speed jet ferry that went adrift in waters south of Tokyo arrived at a port on July 25.
The vessel, Seven Islands Ai, operated by Tokai Kisen, lost control of steering on July 24 while heading to Shikine-jima island south of Tokyo.
The Japan Coast Guard towed the ferry to Izu Oshima Island off Tokyo around 5:40 AM on July 25.
The 116 passengers and five crew members were able to get off the boat for the first time in 22 hours.
Passenger / It took time, but I finally feel relieved.
Passenger / The boat was shaking intensely sideways, and we were told that there was going to be an inspection.
Passenger / I was seasick the entire time.
Three out of the 116 passengers reported sickness, but none were in a serious condition.
Some of the passengers headed to their original destination, Shikine-jima, on a different ferry after resting at the port.
Others planned to go back to Tokyo.
