The Japanese government announced on May 30 that it will add the "My Number" national identification function to iPhones in the country starting next spring.

The announcement came following a phone meeting between Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio and Apple CEO Tim Cook.

Android phones already are equipped with the function.

Now iPhone users will be able to use the function in administrative work and other occasions.
