Fuel debris at Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant collected

Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) on November 2 moved a device that grabbed fuel debris from the containment vessel of the unit 2 reactor at Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant damaged by the 2011 earthquake and tsunami.

TEPCO placed the device inside the containment vessel to collect fuel debris on October 30 in a trial removal of the melted-down nuclear fuel.

The company said the device that was used to remove the debris was transferred to a sealed box outside the containment vessel on November 2.

The radiation level of the fuel debris will be measured as early as November 5.

If it is confirmed to be less than 24 millisieverts per hour, the fuel debris will be placed in a transport box, completing the trial removal process.
