Smoke coming off the wings of ANA flight at New Chitose Airport
Smoke was reported to be coming from the wings of an All Nippon Airways (ANA) plane at New Chitose Airport on the evening of April 24.
Fire department was informed of the smoke coming from ANA flight 71 departed from Haneda to New Chitose at about 5:40pm and at that point,there was no fire present.New Chitose Airport is the gateway for Sapporo or nearby cities in Hokkaido, the northern part of Japan.
The incident caused the runway at the airport to be temporarily closed, and passengers on the plane to be delayed by about two hours.202 passengers and nine crew members were aboard the plane; no injuries have been reported.
S/Passenger: "There was a fire (on a plane) at New Year's this year as well, which reminded me of that, but the captain repeatedly said that everything was okay. It put the passengers at ease, and we all waited quietly."
According to ANA, the aircraft lacked the hydraulic pressure required for landing.The aircraft is currently being inspected and the cause is under investigation.
According to Hokkaido Airports which operates New Chitose Airport, there have been no major delays as a result of the incident.As there were no effects to the runway, operations are scheduled to continue as normal.
