Crown Princess Kiko and her daughter Princess Kako visit exhibition of Japanese embroidery
Crown Princess Kiko and her daughter Princess Kako visited an exhibition of Japanese embroidery held in Tokyo on September 10.
They took in the exhibits of embroidery made by Kusano Shizuka, a Japanese embroidery artist.
At the exhibition section showcasing works inspired by the princesses from the Tale of Genji, the two royals took in a folding screen and a visiting kimono representing “Akashi no Kimi.”
Standing in front of the delicate works, Princess Kiko remarked, “Each stitch is made with such care and thought,” while Princess Kako said, “The green is beautiful.”
Upon hearing the explanation that making holes in the embroidery process is difficult, Princess Kiko was impressed by the craftsmanship and remarked, “It requires skill.”
