Construction of world's fastest train unveiled to public

NTV Reporter / You can see that we are right below Shinagawa Station on the Tokaido-Shinkansen bullet train line.

Locals near central Tokyo’s Shinagawa Station got to take a look at the construction site of the world’s fastest train on November 4.

Participants of the tour organized by Central Japan Railway were able to see what the 13-meter-under-ground maglev bullet train’s Shinagawa Station looks like.

The area around Shinagawa Station is undergoing urban development, and the station is a major transport hub for trains that go to both Haneda and Narita airports. The new maglev station will also be a major stop for the new line.

Local / I was aware that there was construction going on, but I was not able to imagine how it looks inside at all. It was a nice tour.

Central Japan Railway had initially planned to start operations of the ultra-rapid train in 2027.

However, preparations have been stalled after Shizuoka Prefecture, which lies between the two destinations, refused construction of a necessary tunnel.
