Narita Airport to increase takeoff and landing cap
Narita Airport plans to increase its annual takeoff and landing cap from 300,000 to 340,000.
According to the Narita International Airport Corporation, around 251,000 flights are expected this year as flight demand by foreign travelers is on the rise.
The growing inbound demand and post-pandemic demand are expected to increase takeoff and landing to over 300,000 flights in fiscal 2026.
The two runways at Narita Airport operate from 6AM to midnight, and officials said they can adjust for the increase without change in operation times.
Narita Airport aims to accommodate more flights by October.
In 2018, the corporation agreed with the national, prefectural, and affected local governments to make room for 500,000 flights per year at Narita Airport, and plans are underway to build a third runway by 2029.
