Japan launches Earth observation satellite on H3 rocket

Japan successfully launched he H3 Launch Vehicle No. 3, carrying the Earth observation satellite Daichi-4, on July 1 from the Tanegashima Space Center in Kagoshima Prefecture, southwestern Japan.

Approximately 17 minutes after the 12:06 p.m. launch, the H3 rocket separated the Daichi-4 satellite into its designated orbit, marking a successful launch.

This will be the first time for a large satellite launched by the H3 rocket to be put into operation after two consecutive successful launches of the H3 launch vehicle.

The Daichi-4 is capable of observation even at night and in bad weather conditions and is expected to be used for checking the situation following disasters and other purposes.

Officials said the observation range and frequency will be significantly improved compared to the currently operating Daichi-2.
