Typhoon Shanshan disrupts traffic

Slow-moving Typhoon Shanshan that made landfall in southwestern Japan on August 29 is disrupting traffic across the country.

Central Japan Railway announced that its Tokaido Shinkansen bullet train will suspend operations between Mishima and Nagoya stations on August 30.

It will run the Kodama bullet train, which stops at every station between Tokyo and Shin-Osaka, approximately twice an hour. 

All Kyushu Shinkansen bullet trains have been suspended since the morning of August 29.

Sanyo Shinkansen will suspend operations between 5PM on August 29 and 10AM on August 30. 

The typhoon has also affected air traffic. Japan Airlines has canceled 276 departing and arriving flights to the Kyushu region on August 29. All Nippon Airways has canceled 212 flights.

The two airlines have also canceled a total of 55 flights for August 30.
