7-Eleven to collect waste oil

Japanese convenience store chain giant 7-Eleven started collecting waste oil together with petroleum company Eneos on January 15.

The companies will be collecting the oil in Chiba Prefecture, which includes used cooking oil, expired oil, and others.

Customers can receive a collection bottle at 7-Eleven outlets, Ito Yokado shopping centers and some residential buildings so they can fill it with waste oil at home.

The eco-friendly activity aims to utilize the approximately 100,000 tons of oil that is disposed of in Japanese households every year.

The collected oil will be used as biodiesel fuel for cars. The companies are also aiming to turn it into sustainable aviation fuel after 2027.
