Imperial Palace opens grounds for cherry blossom viewing
The Imperial Palace in Tokyo opened part of its grounds to the general public for spring on March 29.
Since 2014, Inui Street has been open to the public twice a year: in spring, when the cherry blossoms are at their best, and in autumn, when the leaves change color.
The gates opened at 9:00AM, with around 170 people lined up to enjoy the unique view of the cherry blossoms, moat, and stone walls of the Imperial Palace in the light rain.
Visitor: I'm very happy with the beautiful photos I got! I think I could have taken even better photos if it had been sunny.
Tourists: Beautiful! Beautiful! We came here for the Sakura. It’s very nice. Very pretty!
According to the Imperial Household Agency, the warm weather over the past few days has led to the flowering of the Somei-yoshino cherry trees, with the Edo-higan and Koshino-higan varieties now at their best.
Those who wish to visit Inui Street can enter through the Sakashita-mon Gate between 9:00AM and 3:30PM daily until April 6, 2025. No prior registration is required.
