Japan's ANA introduces power nap chairs for ground crew to increase air safety

All Nippon Airways introduced power nap chairs for the ground crew of ANA Group companies on February 20 as part of measures to increase safety in flight operations.

The major Japanese airline said it is the first company in the aviation industry to make power nap chairs available to mechanics and technicians.

Ground crew members are encouraged to take short naps during their breaks.

S/ Ueno Mina, NTV Reporter / When I touch the start button, the seat back begins to recline. The seat back gradually becomes warm, conducive to taking a nap.

ANA is using a special power nap chair developed by Toyota Motor.

As the work of ground crew members constantly requires high levels of concentration, ANA wants to allow them to recover from mental fatigue through power naps.

By doing so, the carrier is hoping to enhance aircraft safety and create a more comfortable working environment for employees.
