An 18-year-old American was arrested for suspected arson.

According to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police, the teenager is believed to have set fire to a trash container in front of an apartment building in Chuo Ward Tokyo on October 21.

He was visiting Japan with his family as a tourist from October 9 and was staying in a hotel in Chuo Ward.

The family was scheduled to return to the US on October 23, but the suspect was arrested the night before, due to CCTV camera analysis.

Six other suspicious fires have occurred at garbage collection spots near the site since October 21.

The suspect has denied the charges, saying that he does not remember.
