Test towing of Kishiwada Danjiri Festival's floats held
S/ Reporter: The thermometer in my hand reads 37 degrees Celsius. It's hot. The people are also very hot. This is the test towing for the Kishiwada Danjiri Festival.
34 danjiri, or large-wheeled gigantic carts that resemble temples, each measuring 4 meters in height and weighing more than 4 tons, were pulled through the streets of Kishiwada to the accompaniment of lively shouts on September 8.
The Kishiwada Danjiri Festival has continued for more than 300 years since the Edo period.
The “yarimawashi,” in which the floats change direction at right angles as they run briskly, is the main attraction of the Danjiri festival.
It drew loud cheers from the spectators along the streets.
The main festival will be held for two days, on September 14 and 15.
