Honda Motor and Nissan Motor scrap merger plan

Honda Motor and Nissan Motor announced on February 13 that they will officially scrap their planned merger.

The automakers said that they made the decision after discussions on the purpose of the merger and post-merger structure.

The decision comes two months after Honda and Nissan announced their plans to pursue a merger in December 2024.

The auto giants were initially considering establishing a holding company, but Honda later proposed to Nissan that it become a subsidiary, which ッreceived opposition within Nissan.

Mitsubishi Motors, which was set to announce in February whether it would join the merger, also announced that it agreed to terminate the memorandum of understanding between the three companies.
