Another large sinkhole caused by burst unground pipe

A 5-meter-wide, 1.5-meter-deep sinkhole emerged in a residential area in Chiba Prefecture on February 11.

According to police, a resident reported around 3AM that there was water gushing from the ruptured road in front of their house.

An underground water pipe had burst, spewing water 10 meters into the air at one point.

The water pressure partially peeled off a roof and broke a window on the second floor of a nearby house. No injuries have been reported.

Officials believe the sinkhole was caused by the ruptured water pipe.

Rescue efforts for a missing driver that fell into a separate sinkhole in Saitama Prefecture on January 28 continued on February 12.
