Tokyo gubernatorial candidate warned of controversial nude poster for election

The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department warned on June 20 a gubernatorial candidate who posted a nearly nude woman on his campaign poster, citing violation of the public nuisance prevention ordinance.

Campaigning for the Tokyo gubernatorial election began on June 20.

The candidate used a nearly nude photograph of a woman on his campaign poster along with statements opposing restrictions on freedom of expression.

These posters were displayed on bulletin boards in Shinjuku Ward and other locations.

The Tokyo Metropolitan police summoned the candidate in question on the night of June 20 and told him that his poster was in violation of the metropolitan nuisance prevention ordinance, demanding their immediate removal and warning against similar actions in the future.

Tokyo police are proceeding with confirmation whether these posters have actually been removed.
