Chinese teenager wanted for graffiti at Yasukuni Shrine

In August of this year, graffiti, including the word “toilet” in Chinese, was found on a stone pillar at Yasukuni Shrine in Tokyo's Chiyoda Ward.

According to sources, the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department obtained on November 21 an arrest warrant for a male teenage Chinese national on suspicion of destruction of property and disrespect for a place of worship.

He is believed to have committed the crime alone and left the country for Hong Kong immediately after the incident.

In May of this year, graffiti was also found at Yasukuni Jinja, and suspects, including the perpetrator, Dong Guangming, are wanted.

29-year-old Jiang Zhoujun, who is believed to have helped him vandalize the pillar, has been arrested and indicted.
