12 people injured in quake-hit Kagoshima and Miyazaki prefectures

 

A house has collapsed in Kagoshima Prefecture after a magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck southwestern Japan on August 8.

No one was injured in the incident in the town of Osaki but a resident was stuck inside for a while.

In Kagoshima Prefecture, four people have sustained injuries such as by falling and being hit by falling objects.

The temblor occurred in the late afternoon of August 8.

In Nichinan, Miyazaki Prefecture, part of the wall at a hospital fell off, showing the steel frame inside.

The quake registered lower 6 in parts of Nichinan.

Hospital officials said its elevators stopped and sprinklers malfunctioned, causing some rooms to get soaked.

They said about 240 people were hospitalized, but none of them were injured.

At a national route connecting Nichinan with the city of Miyazaki, a rock that is 4 meters long and 2.5 meters wide fell, forcing part of the road to be closed.

At Miyazaki Airport, which was locked down temporarily on August 8, people lined up at check-in counters for rebooking as 19 flights got canceled.
