National Day holiday travel in China exceeds 2 billion
China's Ministry of Transport announced that during the National Day holiday from October 1 to October 8, over two billion people travelled in total.
The number of people that travelled per day increased by 4.1% on average compared to 2023, and by 23.4% when compared to 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic.
Additionally, 765 million people travelled domestically within China, an increase of more than 10% compared to before the pandemic.
Consumption during the period was also around 700 billion yuan, or 99 billion USD.
For international travel, about 1.4 million people entered and left the country during the holidays, an average daily increase of 25.8% compared to last year.
According to major travel agencies, the average daily number of overseas trips sold also reached a record high, with Japan being the most popular destination.
